
The Christmas festival, located in front of the new Smoky Mountain Opry at traffic light 0, will feature a huge outdoor ice skating rink, Ferris wheel, Christmas Carousel, and other family friendly rides. Santa Claus, live reindeer, an outdoor synchronized Christmas Light Show and a choreographed indoor Laser Light Show, food vendors, an Arts and Crafts Christmas Village, horse drawn carriage rides, Santa train rides, and S’mores Pit all complete the new “ChristmasFest at the Opry” scheduled to open Nov. 1 and run through Dec. 31.
The total property will feature over a million lights. Santa Claus is expected to preside over all of the festivities and will be available for photos. Kids will also be able to meet Donner, Blitzen and the rest of Santa’s reindeer.
The ice skating rink will be the first of its kind on the Parkway with a covered arena, skate rental and changing area, as well as a viewing area for those who just want to watch. Lessons will be available and skate captains will be on the ice. Skate demonstrations will also be given. In addition to ice skating, other attractions include a Ferris wheel, a Christmas Carousel, a Himalaya, a Santa train, spinning Christmas Bears and a Fun Alpine Racing Sled. An entertainment stage will feature live music every day. Area hand bell choirs, community choirs and featured performers will play to the live crowd.
A S’mores Pit will also be on the property and guests will be able to roast their own marshmallows. Wassail, hot chocolate, popcorn balls, roasted nuts and other Christmas themed menu items will also be available.
Also featured will be an outdoor synchronized Christmas Light Show scheduled every thirty minutes. The Christmas Light Show will feature the specially lit Christmas trees, garland and lights throughout the ChristmasFest as well as the on the Smoky Mountain Opry building itself and all choreographed to Christmas music. The indoor Laser Light Show will be a dazzling display of laser lights and special effects all set to Christmas music. The Laser Light show times will be at intervals during the day. Christmas at the Smoky Mountain Opry will run every day with shows at 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 3 p.m. matinees on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
